McIDAS-V won't start from behind a firewall?

Post by tomw »

A user reported that he was trying to run McIDAS-V inside a firewall, and that only the Main Window would appear -- the Data Explorer window never showed up, nor could he bring it up by clicking on the "V" icon.

The solution to this is to go to the User Preferences window (from Edit --> Preferences) and under the "General" panel, un-check the "Check for new version and notice on start" option. To do this, you may have to first start McIDAS-V off the network...

In addition, it would be necessary to make certain that the ports used for ADDE requests are open through the firewall, if that is your mode of data access from remote servers....
