Graphical Error

Post by Chris K. »

Recently, I have been running into the issue of a satellite image displaying a white box in place of the actual satellite image. The background map is there, but the actual image is not. When I first do the ./runMcV command, I receive the error:

Java 3D WARNING : reported GLX version = 1.2
GLX version 1.3 or higher is required
The reported version number may be incorrect. There is a known
ATI driver bug in glXQueryVersion that incorrectly reports the GLX
version as 1.2 when it really is 1.3, so Java 3D will attempt to
run anyway.
JAVA 3D: OpenGL 1.2 detected; will run with reduced functionality
JAVA 3D: OpenGL 1.2 detected; will run with reduced functionality
JAVA 3D: OpenGL 1.2 detected; will run with reduced functionality
JAVA 3D: OpenGL 1.2 detected; will run with reduced functionality

This leads me to believe it is a graphical error. However, two other members of my research lab also have McIDAS installed on the same machine, just on different accounts, and they seem to have no issues with display, and receive no errors upon startup. I'm on a 64-bit Linux machine. McIDAS reads the data in fine, but the display is not appearing.

Thank you for your help,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting your question. After checking on the graphics drivers, Chris was able to solve his problem by reducing the amount of memory allocated to java. This is done by starting McIDAS-V and from the main tool bar selecting edit-preferences. From the advanced tab, you can reduce the amount of memory. Initially we suggest trying 512mb. If that works, steadily increase the amount of memory.
