cross section on mapped display vs. in layer display

Hi,
This might be a case where I am very confused and there is nothing wrong, but I displayed an AIRS cross section and looked at it in the display (in the data projection) and in the layer settings. They do not look the same, why? In particular, look at the layer at about 50 km, it appears to be about 270 K in the layer control and around 280 K in the mapped display.

Thanks,
Joleen
