I am still experiencing crashes with Mc-V with the recent Version 1.8 beta 1
The pattern of behavior remains the same as my previous post. An existing session is using ~4+ Gb of memory, the session has been minimized for quite a while (12+ hours), I bring the Mc-V display window up after a long time of downtime, I see my display for about a second, and then all Mc-V windows disappear as the software crashes.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for the update, and sorry that you're still seeing crashes. We've been trying to replicate this problem on a couple of our machines, and we were looking to get more information about your setup:
- How many display windows do you have open?
- How many tabs do you have in your window(s)?
- Are you displaying data via remote or local ADDE, netCDF/grb files, or something else?
- If you're working with local files, are they on your machine or on a network you're mounted to?
- How frequently are you seeing this crashing? For example, every day, once a week, ...
Thanks again,
Bob

1) Usually only one window
2) I don't use tabs typically
3) I've used both remote AREAs and local NetCDFs and encountered the problem in both situations
4) the NetCDF files are on my machine. I don't mount to local networks.
5) I see this problem almost every day, i.e. I use Mc-V the day before and when I wake up my computer and start using Mc-V the next day, that's when the crash happens

Hi Kris,
Would it be possible for you to take a look at your computer's "Energy Saver" preferences? If you open up "System Preferences", then go to "Energy Saver", and from there click on the "Power Adapter" tab. From what I can recall, these options are (somewhat) prone to changing between OS releases--if you could send a screenshot to the help desk, that would be ideal!

Here it is, my Mc-V session crashed again this morning when I attempted to first use it. I was able to get a few actions in before it crashed, i.e. switching from one ADDE type to another, but when I went to load a new dataset, "McIDASV quit unexpectedly"

Hi Kris,
Thanks for the information. We're still trying to replicate the problem. Could you please answer the following questions:
- While running McV on your laptop, are you displaying McV on the laptop or on another external monitor you may be connected to?
- When you leave your McV session for 12+ hours, do you leave the laptop open or do you close it? Closing the laptop could put the machine in different states of sleep.
Thanks again,
Bob

1) I am typically displaying on a external monitor but I recall crashes when I've only been on the laptop.
2) The problem usually happens after I close the laptop and reopen. I can't say definitively. The crash happens quite frequently.

Update, yesterday I had Mc-V up and running and I closed my laptop and brought it home. My memory usage was minimal, maybe 2 GB at most. Today I used that Mc-V session and had no crash. I was surprised as it usually crashes in such a scenario. So the amount of memory being consumed by Mc-V upon closure of the laptop could be a key indicator of whether or not it crashes.

New data point today, computer remained closed but connected to external monitor all night, unlike usual where I take it home. Brought Mc-V up for the first time today, the session was active since yesterday. First thing I did was try to connect to an ADDE server AGOES16F, it immediately crashed when I pressed the "Connect" button.

Thanks for all of the information, Kris. We'll take note of your findings in our testing, and I'll keep you updated with any findings. Would you mind taking a screenshot of the error window that appears when McV crashes and sending it to us?
Thanks again,
Bob
