reduced resolution image issues

Post by wstraka »

In viewing sounding data from the AIT framework, I get a really wierd looking image for CAPE (CAPESoundings.gif) , with a bunch of hexagons where the clouds. However, using the UCAR netCDF tool box, I get a much better looking image (Mc-V_issue_soundings.jpg). Any idea why this is happening with beta4??

William,

What kind of display did you create with this data, it's not clear
to me from the jpeg.

Tom

Color Shaded Plan View, which is what we've been using to display the gridded data from the AIT

Hi William,

The problem is missing longitude/latitude points. It looks like earth location is flagged
as missing where there are clouds, which makes sense for sounder data. However,
this many missing lon/lats can cause problems. The display will handle missing
data location on the periphery of a domain, but not all over the interior. Is it possible
for the data to keep the locations of cloudy region, but only flag the data itself as
missing?

I forgot to mention: one thing that will help, is to move the texture quality slider to 'high' in color-shaded
plan view control
