Creating New Map

I have created two maps, both are over Papua New Guinea and in lat/lon projection. I would like to create a polar stereographic projection, but I don't want to recreated the bounds. How can I use the boundaries from my old map to create this new map? If there is no direct conversion, would it be hard to add this?

Generally polar projections are not defined by corner points but rather a center point, standard latitude, standard longitude(s) and scale.
