On November 17th, a McIDAS-V Brainstorming session was held for all scientists at SSEC and CIMSS. At the session, one basic question was asked of the users: What would you like to see in McIDAS-V?
The following discussion is from that brainstorming session:
Publication-quality graphics are needed (Becky/MattL)
* BeckyS asked if attendees have a strong opinion on whether improving McV graphics to be "publication-quality" is a high priority.
* MattL said, "I have a one-word answer: YES", then added that we can check with the various journals to see what their requirements are (e.g., 300 DPI is often required).
* TomW said that he thinks that publication-quality refers more to aesthetics (e.g.,. contour labeling and better/cleaner/clearer fonts), rather than specific requirements like size and DPI.
* TomR mentioned that he is looking into better fonts for contours.
* Dave Parker added that the capability is in the code to use scalable PDF vector graphics, but that we're not utilizing the capability.
* JoleenF said that she'd like to see improvements in making annotation graphics easier to manipulate (resize, move, etc) and to not rotate the annotation graphics when changing perspectives.
