On November 17th, a McIDAS-V Brainstorming session was held for all scientists at SSEC and CIMSS. At the session, one basic question was asked of the users: What would you like to see in McIDAS-V?
The following discussion is from that brainstorming session:
For modelers - embrace grid and image manipulations and merging (BobA)
* BobA said that we should put an emphasis on embracing grid and image manipulations and merging, including support of the various model projections. Also, verification tools that compare, for example, satellite data vs model forecast data would be very useful.
* TomW agreed that it should be a high priority since grid usage keeps getting bigger in the atmospheric sciences (not just for modelers), and that useful verification tools could make McV the software package of choice for such users.
* TomW also told BobA that rather than our developers trying to come up with and design such tools, the modelers (like Bob) need to dream and give us their needs and ideas.
* Tom R said that the GOES-R group would also like to see more analysis tools like Bob Aune is requesting.
