Model Upgrades

Post by danpisut »

Are there any plans to upgrade the Mc-V data from THREDDS sources to include GFS 0.25deg and the HRRR?

Thanks!

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the question. Unidata maintains the data on THREDDS Data Server that is accessed in McIDAS-V through the Gridded Data > Remote chooser. So it would be best to contact Unidata with your question. Their THREDDS Data Server page has a "Questions About the TDS?" section with an email address for such questions or comments.

Thanks,
Barry

Response from Unidata:
"You can find HRRR data here:
http://thredds-test.unidata.ucar.edu/th ... talog.html

We are exploring getting the GFS 1/4 degree, but havent yet decided if its possible. There are some trial datasets on that same server, under "Test Datasets", but so far quite minimal."

With that in mind, can it be incorporated into the UI?

Hi Dan,
Sorry, but our policy is to not include test servers (like this thredds-test.unidata.ucar.edu one) in McIDAS-V's system-supplied lists of servers in the various choosers.

Please note that users who are given access to test servers can use them in McV by entering them manually. In this case you can access this server from the Gridded Data > Remote chooser by entering its URL into the Catalog field then changing its extension from html to xml (i.e., to http://thredds-test.unidata.ucar.edu/th ... atalog.xml) and hitting Enter. However, in our quick checks of data on that server some of it works while other data (including the GFS 0.25deg and the HRRR) error out. (That's actually a good example of why we don't include test servers.)
