Hi,
I have posted a dataset which is large, and will continue to expand as new statistics are calculated (ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/ssec/joleenf/WESTL_test.txt). The statistics were generated using McV libraries, now I would like to monitor those statistic in McIDAS-V by viewing time series over specific periods. This is possible but difficult to do with the current format of the Data/Probe Time Series.
First, in the Field Selector, I am not seeing any "Times" tab. Is this due to the format of my data? It would be nice to be able to limit the amount of [color=#FF40FF]data displayed in the time series. I am concerned that the number of points will get so large that the display could be difficult. Zooming in will get cumbersome. I can extract the data from the current day from the file than load into McV, so it makes this upgrade less important. However, the lack of times tab for this point data surprises me.
Second, when constraining the domain range to small ranges, the date disappears, it would be nice to be able to see the date. This is more important than the
first point.
Thanks,
Joleen

Re: Times Series Field Selector Options
How does the (right click) Add Field option work? Selecting this option does not provide any options to achieve that end.

Re: Times Series Field Selector Options
Hi Joleen -
Thanks for the feature requests/bug reports.
I've written up Inquiry 1696 to cover the bugs and missing functionalities with the Time Series Chart display (bugs/missing functionalities you mentioned below, as well as others I saw).
http://mcidas.ssec.wisc.edu/inquiry-v/?inquiry=1696
Earlier, when you were up here, I mentioned that I remembered an inquiry for the missing Times tab with Point Data. This is Inquiry 1201.
http://mcidas.ssec.wisc.edu/inquiry-v/?inquiry=1201
In my current McIDAS-V version, it looks like this has been fixed for remote point data, so I'll put that inquiry in testing. I created a new inquiry specifically for local point/txt data missing the Times tab. This is Inquiry 1697.
http://mcidas.ssec.wisc.edu/inquiry-v/?inquiry=1697
I'll take a look to see if anything is written up for the formatting issue with the Write Header option in the Point Data field.
Thanks again for reporting this!

Re: Times Series Field Selector Options
HIi Bob,
Re:

Is is possible to add a capability to probe the data point within the time series for data value, x, y points?
FWIW, I encountered the problem outlined in http://mcidas.ssec.wisc.edu/inquiry-v/?inquiry=1201 yesterday as well.

Re: Times Series Field Selector Options
Hi Joleen -
I added the feature request to add the ability to probe the data point within the time series display to inquiry 1696.
As for inquiry 1201, yesterday I just did a quick check of it on my Windows 7 machine, and it seemed like the Times tab was correctly made in the Field Selector with the Point Observations>Plot/Contour chooser and the Wind Profiler chooser. I just did a more complete test of this inquiry and I found a couple problems with it as well:
- There is no Times tab when loading in sounding data
- While the Times tab exists with Wind Profiler data, it doesn't work correctly (if I add 5 times and only select 1 of them in the Field Selector, all 5 times still display)
I'll add these two problems to inquiry 1201 and put it back into Queued, which is the status it was in. Did you notice a different problem?
Thanks -
Bob

Re: Times Series Field Selector Options
Hi Bob,
Thanks for clarifying this, I was pointing to the wrong inquiry (ie. 1201).
I had loaded a time sequence of GOES data and created an image probe/time-series. When I used auto-range, the display zoomed out and I lost the data. I could not recover the data to the display after that.

Hi Joleen -
I added a note to inquiry 1636 that you also ran across the same problem.
Thanks!
