Local ADDE support for GMS VISSR files

Hello,

Similarly to the MTSAT HRIT local ADDE server, It would be helpful to implement the same for GMS VISSR data.

Assuming that both MTSAT and GMS data would be sourced from the Chiba University FTP server (ftp://mtsat.cr.chiba-u.ac.jp/), right?

Hi Rammasun,

We unfortunately do not have a server that will serve raw GMS VISSR files. When GMS was an operational satellite, we had a SDI ingestor that worked with the data and created McIDAS AREA files. The *.IMG VISSR files aren't usable in -V (or -X).

That's a shame to hear. Though I was suggesting that a server for it could be made in future releases, or is that not feasible?

Hi Rammasun,

The archived code that remains from the decoding software would take a significant effort to update for today's compilers and operating environment. If any group is interested in funding this effort, we could give an estimate for the work.
