How Activate or Use the Command LIne in McIDAS V?

Post by glez_b »

hello, how I can activate or use the command line in McIDAS V? I must have installed McIDAS X? is there any way to connect remotely? I am a student of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.

Hi Boris -

To use the command line in McIDAS-V, you do not need to have McIDAS-X installed locally. If you can remotely connect to McIDAS-X on another machine, then you should be able to run the McIDAS-X Bridge in McIDAS-V. Once you open McIDAS-X, enter the MCLISTEN START command to allow McIDAS-X to listen to a port (ex. 8080).

In the Data Sources tab of the Data Explorer, you select McIDAS-X Bridge to begin your session. Change Host to the name of the machine you are remotely connected to for running McIDAS-X, and the Port is the number that is included in the output of your MCLISTEN START command in McIDAS-X.

From here, you can select which frame you want to view, and the McIDAS-X Display display type. You will see a mirror of your McIDAS-X session in the Layer Controls tab of the Data Explorer, including the display window and the command line at the bottom.

For more information on the McIDAS-X Bridge, see the following:

If you are referring to the Unix command line, you are able to run/configure McIDAS-V, and also run user scripts. For more information about commands that you can enter into the Unix command line, see the following:

Hi, Boris -

If you'd like to purchase McIDAS-X support, you can contact me directly at mcinfo@ssec.wisc.edu.

McIDAS is developed and distributed here at the University of Wisconsin, but because you are a part of an educational institution, it's possible that you can obtain McIDAS-X free of charge from the Unidata Program Center (http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/mcidas/index.html). Unidata is funded to provide data and software to educational sites. If you run Unidata McIDAS, you would get all of your support and submit all of your questions to Unidata directly. The software that Unidata distributes and the software that we distribute are nearly identical, so the Unidata software will no doubt meet your needs.
