clearing all layers and data sources
clearing all layers and data sources
I've observed that the clear all layers and data sources takes an extremely long time or causes Mc-V to hang when memory usage is ~1.5 Gb or higher. I find myself having to do a Force Quit on my Mac and then restarting so I can get back to work. Is this behavior commonly observed by others?
Re: clearing all layers and data sources
Hi Kris,
We'll give it a try here. Couple of questions. How much memory do you have on your workstation, what is the amount you have allocated to McV and what version of Mac OSX are you running.
Thanks,
Rick

4 Gb, 80% allotted, so something like 3200 Mb, Mac OS-X 10.5.8
Re: clearing all layers and data sources
Hi Kris,
Unfortunately we no-longer have a workstation running less than 10.6 (intel). To run McIDAS-V, you need to running at least 10.6 (required to run Java 1.6). If you can get upgraded (which I know can be a challenge), you'll probably see an increase in performance.

Re: clearing all layers and data sources
so are you saying that 10.5 is no longer supported?
Re: clearing all layers and data sources
Hi Kris,
Unfortunately for 1.01 and beyond that is the case. This is from the McIDAS-V Users Guide:
Due to changes in the requirements of the netCDF package, McIDAS-V requires Java 1.6. Some Mac OS X systems do not support Java 1.6 and thus are unable to run McIDAS-V. These include:
- All with PPC processors
- Intel Core Solo and Core Duo running OS X 10.5 or earlier

Re: clearing all layers and data sources
hmmm, I have MacOS 10.5.8 and Java 1.6. Is the Users Guide suggesting that Java 1.6 won't work properly with OS-X 10.5.8?

Hi, Kris -
Your configuration should work, but we do not have the machine to test that configuration. What we list on our website is what we have the ability to test, and therefore can support.
