A colleague of mine in the Czech Republic is using photoshop to combine MSG 1 km Visible and 3 km IR data. See the following link:

The 3-D nature of the product is a result of the texture in the Visible channel data...it is not an actual 3-D isosurface. The IR data is warped onto the Visible somehow. This visualization really allows one to see the relationships between the Visible and IR channel features. Can something like this be done in McIDAS-V....I can't really foresee how this would be done.

I kinda got what that image had. I had to do a combination of setting the IR transparancy to 40% and making everything above 290K 100% transparent. I wasn't able to get the 1km imagery (to much memory... ), so I had to use the 3km data. See my attempt in the file below.
