"mcidas_area" NetCDF to GeoTiff

Post by humaid »

I am using MCIDAS-V to export Meteosat data to netCDF as this one.
The exported NetCDF file has grid_mapping_name = "mcidas_area" , which is not recognised by GIS softwares ex. (QGIS). This results in losing the projection coordinate.
Is there is a way around this issue?
Can MCIDAS-V netCDF be converted to GeoTIFF without losing the projection coordinate?

Thank you

Hello Humaid -

McIDAS-V currently does not have the ability to export GeoTIFF images. Adding this functionality has been written up as Inquiry 1806. While I can't make any promises on when this work will be completed, I've added a note to the inquiry to contact you when this functionality is added.

As for exporting georeferenced images, McIDAS-V does have the ability to export Google Earth KML/KMZ files. When doing so, however, you must be in a rectilinear projection (something like the World projection in McIDAS-V) for these Google Earth formats to be exported. If you try generating a KML/KMZ of your image in its native projection (McIDASAreaProjection), the image won't include any data.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Thanks -
Bob Carp
