Re: How do you make a thermodynamic diagram of NWP grid data?

Help Desk replied: These pages in the McV User's Guide have general information about it: m m m m You may note that the Gridded Data chooser (in the Data Sources tab) doesn't have a Soundings option like the Point Observations chooser does. But that's ok. If you use the Gridded Data chooser and sele...

How do you make a thermodynamic diagram of NWP grid data?

This question was recently received by the McIDAS Help Desk:
How do you make a thermodynamic diagram of NWP (numerical weather prediction) grid data in GRIB2 format? I'm most interested in displaying it in a Skew-T diagram.

Re: RGB from ADDE data

The image filters are not quite ready and still have to go through testing. They have to be evaluated to make sure they have the capabilities of IMGFILT. I'll write up an inquiry to make sure that the histogram option be included with the REPLACE option.

Re: Map is not correct for Meteosat (SEVERI) data.

Thanks William,

Unfortunately the user did not have McIDAS-X, but using that exact solution, we were able to help him out. Poking word 65 is the correct solution.

Re: Is it possible to "zoom in" too much?

Hi Brian, Thanks for the report. Yes, this is a known issue in low-level VisAD/IDV, and thus is part of McIDAS-V. According to the thread at m, what happens is that when you zoom in too far, you zoom through the back clipping plane. And as also noted there, when you get to the point where the image ...

For Red - choose .65 channel, for Green choose 3.9. for ...
