Mac 10.8 security with -V installation.

Post by mug_admin »

Hello-

We have a new 10.8 OSX testing machine and we encountered a security error when trying to install -V for the first time. To get around this, you could turn off the security checks or follow the next steps which will work around the security for the -V installation:

1. After double clicking the *.dmg installer file you will see this error:

2. To get around this error, right-click on the installer icon to get this menu (and choose "Open"):

3. After choosing Open, you will see a similar window as in step #1, but now you should have an "Open" option, click Open:

4. A new window will open, and you'll need to enter a login/password for the administrator account. Then click OK, and the installation should proceed.

If anyone encounters problems with this, please post here and we can help you through the process.

Thanks,

Two users recently reported this problem when trying to install McIDAS-V 1.2 on their OS X 10.8 workstations. In addition to the error above ("McIDAS-V Installer" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.) the following error ("McIDAS-V Installer" is damaged an can't be opened. You should eject the disk image.) may also occur.

If you encounter either of those errors, please complete the procedure in the original post above. (There are other procedures that might work [like those at http://yed.yworks.com/support/qa/1487/installation-problem-mountain-graph-editor-installer-damaged and https://github.com/jim618/multibit/issues/44], but most of them temporarily change the default security setting and thus are not recommended unless absolutely necessary.)
